Diagnostic Assessments
Most families start their journey with a question: Does my child have autism?
Friends, family, and teachers will all offer opinions and a quick internet search will cause you more worry than relief. The best answer to this question is a comprehensive assessment with a clinical psychologist who is trained and experienced in the assessment and diagnosis of autism. When receiving a diagnostic evaluation one should expect a wide-ranging data gathering experience which includes research validated testing measures, evaluations and reports from parents, teachers and other meaningful adults, observation and assessment with the child, review of all available records, and collaborative referrals to other medical professionals.
Most children with autism have at least one other medical or behavioral health condition which is contributing to their overall struggles. Identifying these conditions is the first step in creating a comprehensive treatment plan that is individualized for a child’s specific needs.
